Artist Statement for "Crazy"
"Crazy" is a Video Art piece by Melody Elbel that visualizes a panic attack through repetition, layered imagery, and disorienting sound. A figure distorts their face in a mirror while another flashes rapidly between staring at a phone and collapsing with their head in their lap, moving to the sharp notes of the music. A large clock looms behind them. The main figure falls in an endless loop, layered in bright colors, struggling for breath. Matthew Ellis's original composition "Russian Folk Fuck" features piercing, cyclical flute patterns that mirror the escalating chaos onscreen, breaking briefly before intensifying again. The work settles as the figure lies on the floor, breathing slowing, coming down from the attack.
This piece was submitted and accepted into the Ann Arbor Film Festival where Melody will be attending to be available for a Q&A on Wednesday March 25th.
